Celebrated annually on June 19th, Juneteenth—also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day—remembers the historic moment when, on June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing news that enslaved individuals were officially free, marking the end of slavery in the United States.
